Dennis Cahill - "Hector the Hero"
Dennis played me his arrangement of "Hector the Hero" between classes at the Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp in July 2010. It has been stuck in my head ever since. I just discovered this low-res video of it yesterday while mucking about on my old computer. Enjoy! Here's a little bit about the tune: https://bit.ly/3Oa9OUR

'We picked this tune up floating around at the Clifftop Appalachian Stringband Festival in West Virginia one year. It comes from the playing of John Lusk, who was a fiddler known for his work with the Tennessee stringband trio 'Gribble, Lusk and York'.' Just playing around with my loop pedal to a celtic tune my father wrote called "Dot MacKinnon's Reel". Not the greatest sound quality, but you'll get a little gist of 'er.

Haste to the wedding (fiddle lesson)
Haste to the Wedding is one of the most widely played jigs. It was originally written by the Scots composer James Oswald around 1750. It was popularised in the operetta "The Elopement" and soon was widely played throughout the British Isles and North America. In this fiddle lesson I give two versions of the tune. Firstly a simple version suitable for beginners, and then a slightly more complex one, with ornaments including cuts and rolls. There are plenty more Irish and Scottish jigs elsewhere on The Fiddle Channel, and I have a book "Exploring Folk Fiddle" which looks in detail at many of the techniques and concepts related to this video. Below are details of further fiddle resources from Chris Haigh 1. Patreon 2. Books 3. Subscription video courses 4. Website 5. Email to request pdf’s. 1.
