Professor Michael Dougan assesses UK’s position following vote to leave the EU
Professor Michael Dougan, the leading EU lawyer whose criticism of the referendum campaign’s “industrial dishonesty” went viral, has assessed the UK’s position following the vote to leave the EU. The University of Liverpool Law School Professor has spent his career studying EU law as it relates to the UK; contributing to Parliamentary Select Committees, advising government and helping media fact check the barrage of assertions emanating from the Remain and Leave camps in the run up to the referendum on June 23. Now, following the UK’s vote to leave, Professor Dougan has repeated his criticism, asserting that the Leave campaign was “one of the most dishonest campaigns this country has ever seen”, potentially resulting in “untold damage to the quality of our national democracy”. Addressing the core of Vote Leave’s position, Professor Dougan considers allegations relating to the power held by the European Commission, the volume of law that emanates from the EU, the likelihood of a European Army, Turkey’s ascension to the EU – “no prospect in our lifetimes”, TTIP and immigration. And because most of the campaign was based on constitutional and legal issues, he says it is therefore “relatively easy for a constitutional lawyer like me to investigate and evaluate the main planks of what the Leave campaign had to say”. Professor Dougan is also highly critical of the actions of Vote Leave’s most prominent members in the days after the vote, as it quickly emerged that no plan was in place and their pre-referendum claims rapidly unravelled. But he also expressed his concern that many of those that did Vote Leave will “not get the things they were falsely promised” and that this could leave them feeling “more disenfranchised, more marginalised and more angry”. Finally, he says that this is now a “political crisis that needs a political solution” and that the Government has a “constitutional responsibility to protect the national interest”, with Parliament the ultimate decision-maker on whether the UK follows through and leaves the European Union. Disclosure statement: Professor Dougan is an employee of the University of Liverpool. He does not work for, undertake paid consultancy for, or receive funding from any company or organisation that would benefit from this post.

Reaper Tutorial: Make Your First Recording Step-By-Step
Reaper Tutorial: Make Your First Recording Step-By-Step Reaper Tutorial: Make Your First Recording Step-By-Step. In this tutorial I how you how to create your first audio recording in Reaper. I use the AT2020USB+ Mic - available on Amazon at http://geni.us/3C2i - to show how to record first in Audacity, then upscale the knowledge to record with a USB audio interface in Reaper. You can see a range of good audio interfaces available on Amazon here http://geni.us/3K43. The best way to get a good quality recording is to have an audio interface with separate microphone, or a USB microphone. If you want to find out more about USB microphones, then you can read more here and listen to recordings made with all the most popular USB mics http://bit.ly/1QV7MC8 Once you have the equipment and recording software then you are ready to make your first audio recording. Probably the two most popular pieces of software are Reaper and Audacity. Reaper is an example of a DAW or Digital Audio Workstation Software. It is a complete digital audio production application with a full multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing and mastering toolset. So that is fantastic, but for a beginner it can be very daunting even to make your first recording! This is because you open the software up and you are faced with a blank screen and it is very difficult to know how to begin. What I suggest you do is start with software that is much easier, and then apply the principles you have learned to Reaper. So you are going to record in Audacity - which is completely free - then upscale your knowledge to record in Reaper. When you open up Audacity it is possible to get recording right away without thinking too hard about what you are doing. You don’t need to open up any preferences boxes because everything is in front of you on the screen, it is all very obvious. You can choose which microphone or device you want to use to record from a simple drop down box, and same for where you want to playback the sound. You set the levels moving the sliders. Then you simply hit the record button like you would do on a phone, or an old fashioned tape recorder. Then you press stop and there you have it your first recording. Easy. If you wish, you can then open up the preferences by choosing Audacity -Preferences from the menu, and you find you have a range of options that you can adjust. Audacity is very well featured for free recording software. But it is only an audio editor, it doesn’t have MIDI or virtual instruments and lots of other features. It is nowhere near as complicated as a DAW like Reaper. So now to upscale what you did in Audacity to Reaper. Open the DAW and you start with that really daunting blank canvas. The first thing to do is have a look at the preferences, then look under ‘Audio’ and select ‘Device’. Here you can choose your preferred recording device or microphone. Now you need to insert a track before you can make you first recording. Once the track is created, you simply arm it for recording. Now press the record button on the main recording controls, and start recording. When you stop recording the track, Reaper will confirm that you wish to save the wav file. You can accept the default name or you can change it at this point. Once you have named and saved it, then you can easily play it back. Once you have made your first recording, you are ready to add more tracks … and you now can start building up your recording skills! Hopefully this has helped you get past that first daunting hurdle and you successfully make your first recording. Reaper Tutorial: Create MIDI Drum Tracks With FREE MT Power Drum Kit VSTi
Reaper Tutorial: Create MIDI Drum Tracks With FREE MT Power Drum Kit VSTi In this step-by-step Reaper tutorial you will learn how to use the FREE MT Power Drum Kit VSTi you can download from http://bit.ly/1VpEB1q within Reaper (or any other DAW) to program your own drum tracks. You will also need to visit my web page if you want to download my drum programming cheat sheet and the drum map file I have created for the MT Power Drum Kit at http://bit.ly/19kGR46 This is a companion video to my other complete beginner’s guide to drum programming in Reaper which you can view on my web page above or on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpk6LT5WTcQ The first video has a very detailed step by step guide on how to build up your own drum tracks from scratch. However it does use a drum instrument that does not ship with Reaper. In this video you can see how to install and use the MT Power Drum Kit instead. The MT Power Drum Kit enables you to quickly put together tracks with pre-programmed intros, grooves and fills, which you can then hand edit if you wish. It can also be used if you want to create your own patterns as shown in my first video. When you have grasped the basics of drum programming, I really recommend you consider purchasing the #HitIt Book on Drum Programming by Chris which is available on Amazon here http://bit.ly/1VpECT0 or you can purchase it as an eBook here http://bit.ly/1qupwi3 The book covers more detailed tutorials on programming your own drum tracks in loads of different genres, including metal, rock and pop. So once you have mastered the basics of how to use a drum plugin and hand edit in your chosen DAW (Reaper in this case) you can then move on and really up your game with the book alongside. Reaper Tutorial Details: You will learn how to create a new track with a VSTi instrument, and then how to edit the MIDI data to control the instrument. This video shows you how to program drum tracks, but you could use the same steps to control any virtual instrument in Reaper. And the same principles apply if you use any other DAW. You will also learn how to upload a text file to rename the default note names in the MIDI editing window. This is very useful – in fact it is almost essential – when you are trying to program drums in particular. How To Record Digital Piano / Keyboard On A Budget With Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter
How To Record Digital Piano / Keyboard On A Budget With Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter Record your digital piano on a tiny budget using the Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter (available on Amazon http://geni.us/2FEG ) and Audacity (free audio editor and recorder http://bit.ly/1qV1A8m ) The easiest and cheapest way to record the sound of your digital piano or keyboard on your computer (whether you have a Windows Laptop/PC, Mac or iPad) is to connect the audio output of your digital piano keyboard to the microphone port of your computer. I have already uploaded a complete course on how to record your keyboard on your computer – and how to use it as a MIDI controller – on YouTube, and you can either view my channel or find the whole course in one place here http://bit.ly/1S9GDNr By far the best way to record the sound of your keyboard is via a professional audio interface, and if you can possibly afford it then that is my recommended route. To help you, I have written all about What Is An Audio Interface http://bit.ly/1N9J0OV and how to choose the best one for your home recording studio http://bit.ly/1Unazsj However, if you are on a super tight budget, or you are just starting and don’t want to spend any money yet, then I also showed you how to connect the audio output of your keyboard or piano to the mic port of your computer and make quite a decent recording in Audacity or Garageband – both of which are free. So this is a super cheap way of recording. The problem, though, is that many modern computers and laptops do not have a separate microphone port, so getting this method working is very fiddly and requires you to use an adapter. I have seen in the feedback and comments that many of you have struggled. So in this video you can learn step by step how to record the sound of your keyboard through a very inexpensive USB External Stereo Sound Adapter (buy on Amazon here http://geni.us/2FEG ). These little USB devices are VERY popular, VERY cheap, and work incredibly well! Check out the recording of the piano that I make in this video. Not bad quality is it? You can use this sound adapter on iPad as well as Windows PC, Laptop and Mac so it is very versatile. And it has good quality playback too. Finally if you have one of those microphone/headphone headsets with the two mini jacks then you can use this device with that headset too. Once you have watched this, do check out the rest of the series – and find out how to use your keyboard or digital piano as a MIDI controller too! All the videos are here http://bit.ly/1S9GDNr or view them as a playlist on YouTube if you prefer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeHrtSVcm0s&list=PL5P4qB37mqpDxtgPQ_jEAcDXSaIbYeijf And while you are there – make sure you subscribe! I have a lot more videos in the pipeline for people like you who are new to recording, or trying to get results on a budget.
