Professor Michael Dougan assesses UK’s position following vote to leave the EU
Professor Michael Dougan, the leading EU lawyer whose criticism of the referendum campaign’s “industrial dishonesty” went viral, has assessed the UK’s position following the vote to leave the EU. The University of Liverpool Law School Professor has spent his career studying EU law as it relates to the UK; contributing to Parliamentary Select Committees, advising government and helping media fact check the barrage of assertions emanating from the Remain and Leave camps in the run up to the referendum on June 23. Now, following the UK’s vote to leave, Professor Dougan has repeated his criticism, asserting that the Leave campaign was “one of the most dishonest campaigns this country has ever seen”, potentially resulting in “untold damage to the quality of our national democracy”. Addressing the core of Vote Leave’s position, Professor Dougan considers allegations relating to the power held by the European Commission, the volume of law that emanates from the EU, the likelihood of a European Army, Turkey’s ascension to the EU – “no prospect in our lifetimes”, TTIP and immigration. And because most of the campaign was based on constitutional and legal issues, he says it is therefore “relatively easy for a constitutional lawyer like me to investigate and evaluate the main planks of what the Leave campaign had to say”. Professor Dougan is also highly critical of the actions of Vote Leave’s most prominent members in the days after the vote, as it quickly emerged that no plan was in place and their pre-referendum claims rapidly unravelled. But he also expressed his concern that many of those that did Vote Leave will “not get the things they were falsely promised” and that this could leave them feeling “more disenfranchised, more marginalised and more angry”. Finally, he says that this is now a “political crisis that needs a political solution” and that the Government has a “constitutional responsibility to protect the national interest”, with Parliament the ultimate decision-maker on whether the UK follows through and leaves the European Union. Disclosure statement: Professor Dougan is an employee of the University of Liverpool. He does not work for, undertake paid consultancy for, or receive funding from any company or organisation that would benefit from this post.

Reaper Tutorial: Make Your First Recording Step-By-Step

Reaper Tutorial: Make Your First Recording Step-By-Step Reaper Tutorial: Make Your First Recording Step-By-Step. In this tutorial I how you how to create your first audio recording in Reaper. I use the AT2020USB+ Mic - available on Amazon at http://geni.us/3C2i - to show how to record first in Audacity, then upscale the knowledge to record with a USB audio interface in Reaper. You can see a range of good audio interfaces available on Amazon here http://geni.us/3K43. The best way to get a good quality recording is to have an audio interface with separate microphone, or a USB microphone. If you want to find out more about USB microphones, then you can read more here and listen to recordings made with all the most popular USB mics http://bit.ly/1QV7MC8 Once you have the equipment and recording software then you are ready to make your first audio recording. Probably the two most popular pieces of software are Reaper and Audacity. Reaper is an example of a DAW or Digital Audio Workstation Software. It is a complete digital audio production application with a full multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing and mastering toolset. So that is fantastic, but for a beginner it can be very daunting even to make your first recording! This is because you open the software up and you are faced with a blank screen and it is very difficult to know how to begin. What I suggest you do is start with software that is much easier, and then apply the principles you have learned to Reaper. So you are going to record in Audacity - which is completely free - then upscale your knowledge to record in Reaper. When you open up Audacity it is possible to get recording right away without thinking too hard about what you are doing. You don’t need to open up any preferences boxes because everything is in front of you on the screen, it is all very obvious. You can choose which microphone or device you want to use to record from a simple drop down box, and same for where you want to playback the sound. You set the levels moving the sliders. Then you simply hit the record button like you would do on a phone, or an old fashioned tape recorder. Then you press stop and there you have it your first recording. Easy. If you wish, you can then open up the preferences by choosing Audacity -Preferences from the menu, and you find you have a range of options that you can adjust. Audacity is very well featured for free recording software. But it is only an audio editor, it doesn’t have MIDI or virtual instruments and lots of other features. It is nowhere near as complicated as a DAW like Reaper. So now to upscale what you did in Audacity to Reaper. Open the DAW and you start with that really daunting blank canvas. The first thing to do is have a look at the preferences, then look under ‘Audio’ and select ‘Device’. Here you can choose your preferred recording device or microphone. Now you need to insert a track before you can make you first recording. Once the track is created, you simply arm it for recording. Now press the record button on the main recording controls, and start recording. When you stop recording the track, Reaper will confirm that you wish to save the wav file. You can accept the default name or you can change it at this point. Once you have named and saved it, then you can easily play it back. Once you have made your first recording, you are ready to add more tracks … and you now can start building up your recording skills! Hopefully this has helped you get past that first daunting hurdle and you successfully make your first recording. If you want to find out more about home studio recording, do make sure you visit the Music Repo site at http://bit.ly/1JBIEQ3 where you can download a FREE 32-page eBook that is a great beginner’s guide to home recording studio setup. You can download Audacity from here http://bit.ly/1qV1A8m and you can get a 60-day trial of Reaper from here. If you like it, then it is very well priced for such a well-featured DAW http://bit.ly/1UvzpWQ Visit our web site for helpful guides, hints, tips and more on setting up your home recording studio: http://bit.ly/1JBIEQ3 Check out the Music Repo Channel on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/MusicRepoCom Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/musicrepo Connect with us on Facebook: http://bit.ly/1CkZGCu Find us on Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1eysFrn
