Practice and Prepare With Nicky Introduction
Welcome back to new videos! So excited to share with you two different sets of videos which we will be running simultaneously. ‘With Nicky’ will be exclusively about practice (yay!) which, strangely enough, we haven’t really specifically talked about that much so far. We’ll be breaking up practice concepts into individual tips such as how to organise your time, how to stay concentrated and what to do with the time you have. Alongside that, we’ll be helping everyone who has a place at the Benedetti Sessions next year to prepare with us. Preparation for any single event, whether that be a workshop, or a concert or even a lesson can be a bumpy road! It’s not something which is linear and so you have to enter into a journey of preparation as one that’s going to be a bit up and down. Sometimes you’ll feel like you’re improving, sometimes it might feel like you’re getting worse 😱, but don’t worry, it’s consistency that is so important. Over the next couple of months, we’ll be delving deep into the repertoire we are learning and tying that to the more fundamental basics of playing. We will be looking at topics like storytelling, approaching the style and attitude of the piece, the physicality of playing and how to feel ready for an event or workshop coming up. The first ‘Prepare with Nicky’ video will be out at the end of this week 🥳 and ‘Practice with Nicky’ starts on Tuesday next week (29 October). We’d love to hear from you. Please subscribe to the YouTube channel (click on the bell for notifications when our new videos are out) and use #preparewithnicky anywhere you like! Huge thanks to our partners Classic FM, The Strad, The Violin Channel, WQXR, ABRSM and Charanga who will be sharing the videos with their audiences. These videos have been supported by ESTA UK, MiSST- The Andrew Lloyd Webber Programme and Oasby Music Group and we are very grateful for their support. Film: Jaegerfilm

Excerpts: Louis Andriessen's La Girò. Monica Germino, violin/voice
excerpts from the world premiere of Louis Andriessen's La Girò, for violin and large ensemble. MITO Settembre Musica Festival - 5 September, 2011, Milan, Italy. Monica Germino, violin/voice; David Atherton, conductor; London Sinfonietta; Sound Intermedia Louis Andriessen's La Girò for violin and large ensemble features Monica Germino as soloist, and has a distinctly Italian theme as the composer explains: "When Enzo Restagno asked me to write a piece for this year's MITO Festival, I was honoured because in the early sixties I lived in Italy for a year, and ever since then I have felt a strong bond with that country. In La Girò I am musing about a composer I admire a lot: maestro Antonio Vivaldi. The title refers to Anna Girò, Vivaldi's favourite singer. The piece would not have become the 'performance' it is without its dedicatee, the violinist Monica Germino. The soloist (La Girò, perhaps?) does not only play the violin. She also sings an Italian song, whispers and talks, tells stories and dreams. The ensemble consists of a small chamber orchestra, with an added piano, harp, cimbalom and some percussion. The piece has four parts: the first three form a kind of concertino while the actual musical drama takes place in the fourth, slow part." selected performances: world premiere: MITO Settembre Musica Festival: 5 & 6 September in Milan & Torino (2011) by Louis Andriessen 5 September, 2011 MITO Settembre Musica Festival world premieres: Louis Andriessen's La Girò, Harrison Birtwistle, Matteo Franceschini & Fabio Vacchi Monica Germino, violin/voice London Sinfonietta; David Atherton, conductor Sound Intermedia venue: Teatro Dal Verme; Milan, Italy Live broadcast by Italian National Radio 3 6 September, 21.00 - MITO Settembre Musica Festival venue: Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi; Torino, Italy info London Sinfonietta: http://bit.ly/2J6puJv info MITO: http://bit.ly/2MZp0WC 2012: 12 January, 20.15 Netherlands premiere of La Girò (2011) by Louis Andriessen Donderdagavond series - PROMS: Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Amsterdam, the Netherlands program: The dreams of Anna Girò plus music by Zygmunt Krauze Monica Germino, violin/voice; Reinbert de Leeuw, conductor; Asko|Schönberg Live broadcast by Dutch National Radio 4 (NTR) 28 February, 20.00 USA premiere of La Girò (2011) by Louis Andriessen Green Umbrella Series: Walt Disney Hall, Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.
