Bowing choices for Irish fiddle; Joe Bane's Polka
Using Joe Bane's Polka as an example, I look at four different approaches to bowing. In Irish fiddle playing drive or lift, consistency, speed, and an element of surprise are all targets that we should aim for. In this video I go through some of the choices which you make when deciding on how to approach the bowing. I start with separate bows, and explain the weakness of this approach. Then we add slurs in order to start each bar on a down bow. Then we try playing a consistent pattern up one down, one up for each bar. Finally we take the tune phrase by phrase, and show how a whole range of approaches can be used within one tune. I have an online subscription video course on folk and Irish fiddle at https://academyoffolk.com/ I have a book "Exploring Folk Fiddle" which examines many aspects of folk fiddling, including bowing, ornamentation tune forms and how to play for dancing. How To Add Your Own Music Tracks to Spotify 2021 - Mac/PC/Android/iOS

How To Add Your Own Music Tracks to Spotify 2021 - Mac/PC/Android/iOS How do you add music tracks to Spotify that are not already in the Spotify library? In this step-by-step tutorial, I show you how to add songs to Spotify that are not on Spotify. This means you can upload any song (including your own songs) to Spotify and listen to them on your computer, iPhone, and Android phone. Adding songs to Spotify is easy but not immediately obvious! I have found this to be *extremely useful* for anyone learning to play a musical instrument - or sing. If you want to learn tunes that are not in the Spotify library, and yet that is your preferred way to play music. PLUS if you have CD's of backing tracks or similar content, it is super useful to be able to access it from Spotify so you can play back through your guitar amp, bluetooth speaker, or any other playback device that you would normally use. The steps are briefly outlined below, for a more detailed guide visit https://bit.ly/3oFVYxT In order to add songs to Spotify, you must have a computer, such as a Mac or Windows PC. Once you have added your music, you can listen to it on any device, but only if you have Spotify premium. Brand new tutorial for 2021. Follow the steps below to add songs to Spotify: 1. Open the Spotify app on your desktop computer and login to your Spotify account. 2. Open the Spotify settings by selecting the 3 dots in the top left of the app (PC) and then selecting edit and Preferences, or click the down arrow next to your name in the top right hand corner (Mac and PC) 3. Once in the Spotify settings toggle switch to turn on Local Files. 4. To add any folders on your PC or Mac containing music select Add a Source then find the folder containing your songs. 5. Now create a playlist - name it and add a picture so that you can easily find it in your Spotify library 6. Navigate to local files in your library - on PC click the link to local files on left hand side of screen. On Mac, navigate to your library the click the square which says local files. 7. Use a search term to bring up the songs - usually they will be off an album or disk of tracks. Then click and highlight and right-click to add to your newly created playlist. 8. The playlist should now appear in your Spotify library on your mobile devices. Simply download the tracks so that you can then access them on either Android or iOS device. NB for this to work your computer and mobile devices must all be connected to the same network. Sometimes it may be necessary to sign out and sign back in again. Or close the app and open it up 0:00 Intro 1:14 Upload your mp3 files to mac/PC 1:59 Navigate to settings in Spotify - PC or Mac 2:08 How to show local files in Spotify (desktop version PC or Mac) 2:20 Add a source to Spotify library 3:02 Create a Spotify playlist 3:48 Add files to Spotify playlist on Mac or PC 4:23 Navigate to local files in Spotify on Mac 4:54 Navigate to local files in Spotify on PC 5:35 Download files to mobile device - Android 6:05 Download files to mobile device - iOS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** Support this channel and help me help you ** Buy me a coffee: https://bit.ly/3rznjSx Jane's Tip Jar: https://bit.ly/3cNjZPA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Visit my web site for helpful guides, hints tips and more on setting up your home recording studio: https://bit.ly/2Txj9sY Shop my favourite home studio recording gear: https://bit.ly/2NKjYOI Check out the Music Repo Channel on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/musicrepo Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/musicrepo Connect with me on Facebook: https://bit.ly/1CkZGCu Find me on Pinterest: https://bit.ly/1eysFrn Follow me on Instagram https://bit.ly/2YqZ8Id #MusicRepoTV #Spotify #SpotifyTutorial

How to Use a High Pass Filter
The High Pass Filter (HPF) - also known as a low cut filter - is possibly one of the most underutilized tools in the electric string world. With an acoustic instrument, the body of the instrument itself serves the function of eliminating low frequency information such as bow changes. Once you amplify, though, either with a mic or a pickup, you lose that advantage. Using a high pass filter can clean up your sound and help your amplified instrument sound more like what your ears expect a violin, viola, or cello to sound like.

A common question we get after a person buys a new violin (after playing another one for several years) is, "How do I make my new violin sound like my old one?" In this video, we'll talk about why that's the wrong question. You want your new instrument to sound "good", not "the same as something else". Good is not a singular point. There are a variety of good sounds and we want to highlight the best parts of each instrument.
